Wake Up! RCIA Students, Cradle Catholics, and New Believers
Everyone takes a different journey toward faith. In the Catholic Church, we may come from a number of directions. You may be a “Cradle Catholic” looking to reawaken your faith. You may have married into the faith and looking into the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA. Or, you may have been led to the Catholic Church by a friend or loved one. Some of you may be searching for answers for the first time. However we end up here, the important part is that we are all on the same journey.
RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, is the method to become Catholic as an adult. The RCIA process is how adults go through the Confirmation process. There are regular classes to attend and material to read. It covers the basic topics and tenets of the Catholic faith. By the end of RCIA, you will have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Catholic. It takes commitment to make it through the process, but it is one that is well worth the effort.
Like many of you, I have gone through the RCIA process. I was not born a Catholic, but chose to become a Catholic as an adult. The inspiration for this site comes from my path to the Catholic Church. As I learn, I will share what I have found here on Waking Up Catholic.
Cradle Catholics, Wake Up Your Faith!
Were you born a Catholic? You may have heard the term “Cradle Catholic,” essentially meaning someone who has been a Catholic since birth. Even though you may have been raised in a Catholic family, it does not mean that you are living out faith in a way a Catholic should. Have you been confirmed? If not, go to RCIA. Do you attend Mass regularly? If not, go this Sunday. Have you been to Confession lately? If not, call your priest and schedule a time. Do you pray regularly? If not, start praying now!
Your faith may be strong enough to move mountains. In your heart, you may have a deep passion for Christ. But, living out faith in our daily lives can be one of the most difficult things to do. Spreading the message of Christ can bring out the shyness in all of us. Sharing our faith with the world can sometimes seem impossible. It is time for you to start living in a way that pleases Christ. God wants you to turn your inward faith outward so that the rest of the world can see. Are you ready?
Life is full of ups and downs. Our faith may be the victim of many of those ups and downs. From time to time, Cradle Catholic or not, everyone struggles to keep a deeper relationship with Christ. Lord knows that I have had my share of struggles as well. No matter how much we struggle, Christ is there waiting. He wants us to come home. The Lord is anxiously waiting for us to begin a lasting relationship with Him. He can see the beauty in all of us, despite all of our many faults. Go home, He is waiting for you.
New to Faith?
This site focuses on those going through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and those Cradle Catholics who are looking to deepen their faith; however, neither of these descriptions may apply to you. If you are new to Christianity, you can learn more here at Waking Up Catholic. There is information about the basic beliefs of the Catholic Church, and Christianity in general. You have questions. We all do. Hopefully, you can find the answers to those questions here.
When we first come to faith in Christ, it can be a scary time. At times, we hear about the wrath of God. At other times, we are told of His love and mercy. It can all be very confusing. Do not worry. You will find the answers you need, either here or elsewhere. The key is to keep searching. Do not give up. Realize that being here, reading this website, is one of the first steps you will take toward a life with Christ. Welcome!
