A Wife Beyond Value
More Valuable than Pearls…
From today’s Mass readings, we learn:
“When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize.” -Proverbs 31:10-11, NAB
How do you put a price on something that is priceless? One of the greatest gifts that we can receive from God is a loving spouse. When we meet that one person who truly completes who we are. They are the yin for our yang, the zig for our zag.
It can be difficult in today’s modern world to find someone with the same faith and values that we have. Beyond their beauty, personality, and financial status, the greatest quality any one of us can find is someone with a genuine and true love for the Lord. While so many women are focused on the goals of this world, it is truly a prize to find someone whose first goal is a life with Christ.
I consider myself blessed to have met a woman who loves the Lord as much as I do. She is beautiful, compassionate, and completely supportive of everything that I do, but the thing that impresses me the most about her is her disciplined faith. That reason alone makes her worthy marrying. In a few short months, that will become a reality.
As men, our wives may be more valuable than pearls, and we must be just as valuable to our wives (or future wives). It is just as important for us to live our lives with those same values. Yes, it is important for us to be successful and provide for our families, but it is more important for us to be the men God has called us to be.
A couple whose focus is on Christ can do great things together. Where one can make a difference for Christ, two can truly change the world. To her credit, my future wife is the one who continually encourages, challenges, and supports me in this ministry. Without her, there might not be WakingUpCatholic.com.
Are you more valuable than pearls to your spouse? Are you an example of Christ’s love for them? If you do not feel that you are, do not worry, all hope is not lost. More important than where you were is where you are and where you’re going. Make a change for the better; it is never too late. If you feel that you are a good example of Christ’s love, but it is your spouse who is not, then continue to show them Christ’s love anyway. Eventually, they may come around and become more valuable to you than pearls.
