The Big Game…

Preparing ourselves for the big game:

“Every athlete exercises discipline in every way. They do it to win a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.” -1 Corinthians 9:25, NAB

With the big game on today, most people’s focus will solely be on that.  As the country stops to watch the most televised event of the year, it would be amazing to think what would happen if that many people were doing something else.

  • What if the 70% of the country spent their time helping someone in need?
  • What if the $8-10 billion dollars went to helping people in need all over the world?
  • What if 5 million people dropped $1000 dollars in the offering plate instead of buying a new TV?
  • What if $3.5 million dollars was not spent on 30 seconds of commercials but given to charity?
  • What if we could get 200 million people to attend Mass on any given Sunday?
  • What if we had that many people passionate about their faith?
Imagine the possibilities.  With that amount of  time, energy, and money spent on one football game, imagine if we all put our energies as passionately into something even better.
Tomorrow, there will be headlines in every newspaper.  A week from now, most people will not remember the final score.  Three months from now, people will only remember one or two big plays.  A year from now, someone else will come to take the title.  Five years from now, most will struggle to remember who won or who even played.  But, for those who know Christ, we have not forgotten, even 2000 years later, the awesome gift He gave us on the cross.
