As enemies of Christ, we deserved very little:
“Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by his life.” -Romans 5:10 NAB
Were you an enemy of God’s? You may not think so, but if there was a time in your life when you did not accept Him, when you rejected Him, you were God’s enemy. What did you ever do to God that made you His enemy? By rejecting Him, His commandments, and living outside of the Law, you became His enemy.
Truth be told, as friends of Christ, we still deserve very little. It is only through His grace and mercy that we are freed from the bondage of our sin. Sin has a powerful grip on our lives, but through Christ, it can be overcome.
All hope is not lost. You may have been his enemy at one time, but through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, we have an opportunity to be reconciled with Him again. Our God is a forgiving God, who wants nothing more than to have you come back home. Like the prodigal son, we may have strayed afar, but He will always welcome us back home again.
After reconciling ourselves with God once again, we not only stop being His enemy, but we can be saved and find eternal life. It is a matter of extremes. If we reject Him, we are His enemy and face His full fury and wrath, but if we accept Him, we also accept and receive His unfailing love, grace and mercy.
Stop rebelling against our Lord, and open yourself to the beautiful life He has waiting for you. Regardless of how far you may have strayed, He is waiting to welcome you home with open arms.
