Know the Law…
Do you know that you are a sinner?
“Now we know that what the law says is addressed to those under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world stand accountable to God, since no human being will be justified in his sight by observing the law; for through the law comes consciousness of sin.” -Romans 3:19-20 NAB
The point of Waking Up Catholic is not to make theological scholars out of anyone. I, myself, am far from a scholar. Even though we may not be scholars, that does not mean that we should claim ignorance to the Law – or the truth that we can see through the Law.
Prior to our conversion, whether we converted thirty years ago or two weeks ago, we did not understand what it meant to be a sinner. Soceity may have given us some opinion of what it meant to be a sinner, but it is not until we accept Christ into our lives that we truly understand it.
For years, you may have been looking into a foggy mirror. You could see yourself, but you really could not see the details. Now, with the mirror wiped clean, you can see yourself for who you really are, and you may not like what you see. For the first time, you can see how sin has stained your life and how far you fall short from a beautiful, sinless life.
Paul states, “so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world stand accountable to God.” That is the point. Quit telling the world, and yourself, what a great person you are. Humbly accept who you are. It is through that humility that we can take the first steps toward a more Christ-like life.
