Boldly go where no man has gone before:
Thus I aspire to proclaim the gospel not where Christ has already been named, so that I do not build on another’s foundation, but as it is written: “Those who have never been told of him shall see, and those who have never heard of him shall understand. -Romans 15:20-21, NAB
Did the Star Trek references catch your attention? Good.
In today’s verse, St. Paul tells us that his focus is not on preaching the Gospel in the same old places, but to preach in places where it has not been preached before. He heard the call to evangelize all nations, and he is aiming to do just that.
How often do we reach outside of our normal comfort zone? All too often, we do most of our preaching within the walls of our own parish. Well, let me break the news to you: you may find a few souls in need of grace within the walls of your parish, but, if you really want to find the lost souls of this world, we must go elsewhere.
Some will choose to spread the Word through missions. Others will try to spread the Good News in their local community. Others, like myself, may use technology to get the message out. Regardless of what method we use, or how far our reach may be, the important part is that we are making the attempt – God will take care of the rest.
We never know what great things God will do through us. When I started this website, I wasn’t sure if anyone would ever find it. Now, one year, 30,000 unique visitors, and 174 countries later, I am awestruck at what God can do. We just have to put in the time and hard work; God will take care of the miracles.
God wants to work miracles through you as well. It’s time to take your faith outside of the parish walls, out from behind the computer screen, and into the world at large. Whether it begins at home with your own family, or halfway across the world on a missions trip, just go. Go and spread the Gospel. Go and spread the Good News about a God who loves us very much. Before long, you’ll wonder why you ever hesitated.
