One Sinner Who Repents
When explaining why He ate with sinners, Jesus said:
…There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance. -Luke 15:7, NAB
The full quote of this verse comes from Jesus’ parable about the lost sheep, where He states that if a shepherd lost one sheep out of one hundred, he would do everything he could to get it back. In the same way, God would go to great lengths to bring us home, as well.
On a larger scale, it could also be said that out of six billion people on the planet today, God, the angels, and the saints in Heaven rejoice for one sinner who repents. Each and every man and woman on this planet matters to God, and Heaven rejoices when we finally come home.
At one point in your life, you may have worked at a company of hundreds or thousands of people. Generally speaking, you feel like just a number – holding no special value to them at all. If you quit your job the next day, they would simply replace you with someone else.
God, on the other hand, does not see us as just another number. He loves each one of us individually, as if we were His only child, showering us with more love than we could ever grasp.
When one sinner repents, the applause of Heaven and the love of God awaits. Have you received your standing ovation yet?
