The New Evangelization

Share the Faith

Sharing the Faith…

Jesus asks us all to share the Good News with the world:

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” -Matthew 28:19-20, NAB

Our faith is not supposed to remain within a tiny bubble around our own lives; we are meant to share it with the world around us.  As we are changed and transformed, we should allow others to see the impact that Jesus has on our lives.

You may have heard about the New Evangelization, but what is it exactly?  Well, it may be called the New Evangelization, but the idea of evangelization is certainly not anything new.  Since the time of the Great Commission, today’s verse, we have been called to evangelize.  So, why then, do we call it the New Evangelization?

The purpose of the New Evangelization is to help the Catholic Church re-focus itself on evangelization, once again, by helping Catholics learn to spread and share their faith.  This includes ministering to both fallen-away Catholics and a world that is new to Catholicism.

For centuries, the Church has continued to grow, but that growth is threatened by society today.  It is time to reclaim our past growth and begin to evangelize the world in bold new ways.  Using modern technologies, which have been used frequently to attack the Church, we can now reach out to the world in a very bold, dynamic fashion.

One of the primary missions of Waking Up Catholic is to join the New Evangelization by reaching out to Catholic converts and “re-verts.”  By providing a basic look at Catholic teaching, my goal is to aide in the RCIA process and help clear misconceptions about the Catholic Church.  Through this website, and by connecting to friends on FacebookTwitter, and other social media, I hope to reach the world with that message.

The power of the Internet is great.  While some may fear the damage the Internet can bring, this site has been seen in over 190 different countries and territories; something that was not normally available prior to the Internet.  Any one of us can evangelize to the entire world, just as Christ asked us to in the Great Commission.

Very soon, I will be taking on a new venture aimed at helping the New Evangelization.  If you would like to find out more, follow the Waking Up Catholic Facebook and Twitter pages.  There is an exciting announcement that I will be making tomorrow, July 16th.  See you then!

Update:  To help support The New Evangelization, Waking Up Catholic will now be a regular blogging contributor for the New Evangelizers.  Follow the blog:  http://newevangelizers.com/blog/
