Messenger of the Lord
Today, let’s celebrate the knowledge and wisdom shared with us by our priests:
For the lips of the priest are to keep knowledge, and instruction is to be sought from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. -Malachi 2:7, NAB
Today is the final Mass for a very special priest at my parish. He presided over our marriage a year ago and has become a good friend. Now, he is moving on to a new assignment at another parish within the diocese.
This young priest just celebrated the second anniversary of his ordination, but already, he shows a depth of wisdom and knowledge well beyond his years. He is an excellent example of the important role that our priests play in the Church.
We were one of the first couples that he took through the Pre-Cana process, and he played a key role in preparing us for our life together as man and wife. We bonded with him during those sessions, and we will miss seeing him every weekend.
Since that time, he has done an excellent job of sharing insights during his homilies and hosting classes during the week to enrich our faith. Through a variety of methods, he has helped our entire parish to grow and mature spiritually.
Even as a newly-ordained priest, he has helped so many, and I look forward to seeing how he develops in his vocation. There are many more like him. The Church is filled with devoted men of God that help to enrich our lives. Our priests are definitely one of God’s greatest gifts to His Church.
A priest is a messenger of the Lord sent to guide us on our spiritual journey. May we thank God each day for the blessings they bring on our lives.
