Stories of Jesus’ miraculous healings quickly spread:
They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed. -Mark 6:55-56, NAB
The Gospels are filled with stories of Jesus’ miraculous healings, and, in Mark, we have already read a number of these stories. As more people heard about what Christ was doing, they started bringing the sick directly to Him in great numbers – just to get close and touch Him. Simply having faith and touching Him was enough.
Today, we must do the same thing. Whether it is physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual healing that we need, we can find healing in Christ. We may be the one in need of healing, or it may be someone we know and love; regardless of who may be sick, we can find what we seek at the foot of the cross.
Of course, the first century people of Israel could bring their sick directly to Jesus and simply touch His cloak. For us, it is not so simple. We cannot actually reach out and touch Him. But, it was not His garments that brought healing, or even touching His body, it was having faith in Jesus as the Son of God that made the difference.
To find the healing that we seek, it begins with faith. We cannot physically reach out, but we can reach out with our heart and souls. We can give our pain, our suffering, and our very lives over to Christ, and they will be transformed. Through Christ, God’s grace is available to us all.
Numerous times, as Jesus healed the sick, He commented on the strength of their faith. To receive a similar healing, we, too, must have a similar faith in Christ. When we are looking for a miracle, the first step is believing in miracles.
