Abundance…

Jesus feeds five thousand with five loaves and two fish:

He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”

And when they had found out they said, “Five loaves and two fish.” …Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to (his) disciples to set before the people; he also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied. And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragments and what was left of the fish. Those who ate (of the loaves) were five thousand men.  -Mark 6:38-44, NAB

In one of the Gospels’ most famous stories, Jesus shows us that God will always provide – even if it takes a miracle.  And, not only will He provide, but He will provide abundantly, as well.

Facing times of physical, earthly struggle can be a challenge for us spiritually.  When we struggle to provide for our families, to even know where our next meal will come from, it can become difficult to remain strong in our faith, but it is at times like these when God really works wonders in our lives.

Jesus was teaching His followers to let go of their physical needs and focus on the spiritual.  The lesson: if they trust in Him, He will find a way to provide for them.  Instead of allowing our physical hunger overcome us, we must realize that it is our spiritual hunger that really matters.

One might think that Jesus feeding that many people with such little food would have left them hungry for more, yet there was food left over.  God provided in a way that the food multiplied beyond what was needed, and the same thing can happen for us.  Place your trust in God, and He will provide far beyond your actual needs.

God fed His people wandering the desert on the way to the Promised Land, Jesus fed 5,000 people in miraculous ways, and God will provide for us as well, as long as we place our trust in Him.  All it takes is a little faith.
