The Measure by Which You Measure…
What we do in life will surely come back to us:
“Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” -Mark 4:24-25, NAB
If we are quick to judge others, they will be quick to judge us. This is especially true of our negative judgments of others. When we constantly criticize, ridicule, and gossip about the people we know, we can be sure that the same will surely be done to us.
While many focus on the negative aspect of this verse and use it as a warning to people, there is a bright side to is as well. For those who choose to show others abundant love, then abudant love will be shared back with them.
Beyond how we judge others, this applies in other aspects as well. When we are giving and generous with our money and means, God will bless us much more abundantly – sometimes in ways beyond the financial. If we show compassion, we will receive compassion. If we lift others up spiritually, the Lord will lift us even higher. The list goes on.
It’s important for us to take heed of this verse and its warnings, but it’s equally important for us to recognize the blessings that God is offering us. Show the world love, and Christ will show you more love than you could ever imagine. When the Lord measures your life, let it be something you look forward to – not something you fear.
