Let the Light Shine…
Show the world the joy that Christ brings into your life:
He said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.” -Mark 4:21-23, NAB
Jesus’ parables teach us some very profound truths in some very simple ways. In this parable, Christ is comparing His teaching, and Himself, to a lamp. He is telling us that the truth we know about Christ is not meant to be kept to ourselves, but shared with the whole world.
Placing a lamp under a bushel basket is like keeping a secret all to ourselves. Instead of sharing the light that comes from the lamp, we cover it up. Placing a lamp on top of a lampstand not only allows the light to shine openly, but it is also an effort to allow that light to shine as far and wide as possible.
Our faith, like the lamp, is not something that we are supposed to hide. We are not meant to keep it to ourselves. Rather, our faith is meant to shine openly, and we should do everything we can to allow our faith to shine as far and wide as we can.
Does the light of faith in your life shine openly for the world to see? Are you doing everything you can to make it a light that is seen from far away? Faith only begins with our own personal relationship with Christ; it’s when we learn to share that faith that it truly begins to develop.
We live in a dark, dreary world, and it is becoming harder and harder to see. Let the world see the light of Christ in your life. May you be the lampstand that allows the lamp of Christ to shine for miles and miles around.
