A Fresh Start…

Jesus teaches us that we begin a new life when we let God into our lives:

“No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak. If he does, its fullness pulls away, the new from the old, and the tear gets worse. Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins are ruined. Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins.” -Mark 2:21-22, NAB

In Mark 2:21-22, we learn the importance of a fresh start and a new beginning.  With Christ, we are given a new life, and  we are taught that our new life cannot fit with the old.  Our faith has changed our life dramatically.  The impact will reach every aspect of our lives.

Years ago, when I first came to faith, I resisted giving my life fully over to Christ.  Sure, I believed in God, but why did that mean that I had to give up my life?  Why did I have to sacrifice all of the things i enjoy?  I decided to stay the course and allow my life to continue as is.

A few years later, I realized this wasn’t working.  Christ could not change my life if I did not give Him any room to move.  After some soul-searching, I finally gave my life completely over to Christ.  Not partially.  Not mostly.  But completely.

Unfortunately for me, the people in my life around this time were not the best influence.  I wanted to live a more Christ-centered life; they wanted anything but that.  To make a change meant drastically altering my life, including some of my relationships, to grow closer to Christ.  To this day, it’s a decision that I don’t regret.

It has been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result.  If you want change in your life, then change it.  Stop doing the same thing.  Start doing something different.  Christ wants to work miracles in you – He simply needs your permission to do it.

Grasp the new life that is right in front of you.  Let go of the past and see that tomorrow can be much brighter than today.  It’s time for a fresh start, and it starts today!
