Power of Prayer…

Faith has the power to move mountains:

Early in the morning, as they were walking along, they saw the fig tree withered to its roots. Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.”

Jesus said to them in reply, “Have faith in God. Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your transgressions.” -Mark 11:20-25, NAB

Earlier in Mark 11, Jesus said a prayer that cursed a fig tree for not producing fruit.  Now, only days after that prayer, we see that the tree had already withered.  Then, Jesus tells the disciples how prayer has the power to move mountains.

There are a few keys to unlocking the power of prayer.  The first key is truly believing in your heart that our prayers will be answered.  God has the power to do anything, and He can answer any prayer.  If you are looking for a miracle, such as a miraculous healing, it can happen through the power of prayer, but only if you truly believe it can.

Of course, not every prayer will be answered.  Our prayers have to be in line with God’s will.  Praying for a million dollars, when it is not God’s will for our lives, will not be answered.  Suppose that it is God’s will, though; it might not hurt to buy a couple of lottery tickets.  Just remember to support your favorite website with a donation for the inspiration (sarcasm).

Another key to the power of prayer is forgiveness.  Why would God bring blessings to our lives, when we hold anger, contempt, and judgment against others?  There is a reason that Jesus taught us to ask God to “forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”  Forgiveness goes both directions, and it is an important part of having our own prayers answered.

Do you believe in the power of prayer?  Prayer, through the power of God, can make miracles happen; we simply need to believe that it can.  Trust that God has the power to move mountains, and you will be amazed at what happens next.
