With God, All Things are Possible…
There is nothing that is outside of God’s capabilities:
Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.” -Mark 10:27, NAB
In Mark 10:23-25, Jesus tells the disciples that it is difficult for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This shocked the disciples, and they wondered who, then, could be saved. Jesus responded in today’s verse.
The disciples had just learned that all of the wealth in the world could not help them be saved; in fact, it could actually make it more difficult. With it being impossible for man to save himself, who can? God. As Jesus says, “All things are possible for God.”
Today’s verse reflects the popular verse from Matthew 19:26, which states, “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” This verse has gained popularity because it is such a profound, all-encompassing statement. The wording is key. Notice, that Jesus did not say that most things are possible, but all things are possible. There is literally nothing that God cannot do.
One of mankind’s greatest weaknesses is our need for control. When we face challenges, we trust no one like we trust ourselves, and sadly, this often includes God. We put our faith in our own abilities – not our Creator’s. Even though we know our limitations, we do not put our needs in the hands of the limitless.
My wife loves this verse, and it is easy to understand why. God had personally worked a miracle in her life that science simply could not explain. There was nothing that she or anyone else could have done to change her circumstances, but God did. She put her faith in our loving God; He responded with love, grace, and forgiveness.
Looking for a miracle? Step one is realizing that there is little that you can do. Step two is believing, fully and completely, that God can do anything. When you finally figure that out, you will be amazed at the miracles God will bring.
