Faith Like a Child…
Jesus tells us that we should be like children, if we want to enter the Kingdom of Heaven:
And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” -Mark 10:13-15, NAB
Similar to Mark 9:36-37, we learn about the special place that Jesus has in His heart for children. Children’s innocence, purity, and complete dependence are an example for us to follow as adults. Therefore, Jesus tells us to be like children, if we want to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
How do you see God? Is He some distant deity off in the clouds? Do you picture Him as many artists have portrayed Him in their artwork? Or, do you have a real, personal relationship with God? Do you see Him as your Father in Heaven? Building this personal relationship with God is the first step in our journey to eternal life.
Jesus’ primary message is that we should be totally and completely dependent on God, our Father, just as children are dependent on their mothers and fathers. Because of this dependence, children put their whole trust in their parents; God wants us to do the same. Children’s love for their parents is an example for us to follow.
Spending time with my daughter is one of the greatest joys in my life. As I teach and mentor her, it is great to see how she is molding and shaping into a beautiful person. God wants to have that same relationship with us. He enjoys spending time with us and loves seeing us grow and mature in faith.
We have a loving Father, who is there for us every step of the way. He cheers us on to our victories and consoles us in our losses. No one loves us as much as God does – He hopes that we will love Him just as much. Have you given your heart over to God? Do you love Him like a Father? If you do, you will surely find your way to the Kingdom of Heaven.
