A Growing Ministry…
Christ’s ministry was quickly gaining momentum:
Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.” So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee. -Mark 1:35-39, NAB
The signs and miracles Jesus was performing were quickly gaining Him notoriety, and His teachings were beginning to draw crowds. His ministry was growing, and it was time for Him to begin spreading the message even further.
It’s amazing to think that it all began in a few small towns near the Sea of Galilee. Now, Christ’s message, through the work of the Apostles and their successors, has spread to every corner of the Earth. Christ did not come to change one town, one city, or even one nation – He came to change the world.
Jesus knew His purpose. Do we know ours? The Gospel message can only continue to spread through the work of His followers – namely, us! While the Church is doing its part, each one of us, as individuals and members of the Catholic Church, can continue to spread the Good News.
Let’s continue the work that Jesus began with a few fishermen near the Sea of Galilee. Whether it’s in your local community or halfway across the world on a mission trip, continue Christ’s work by spreading the Gospel to all who will listen.
