A Life of Luxury….
A life of luxury may not always be so luxurious:
You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure; you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter. You have condemned; you have murdered the righteous one; he offers you no resistance. -James 5:5-6, NAB
We may enjoy a life of luxury for a time, but eventually, it will come to an end. With that in mind, we have a choice: pursue a life of luxury or live the life of a “righteous one.”
The path that Christ wants us to take is obviously that of the righteous person – someone whose heart is after His. With that choice will surely come oppression. In a world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, there is little room for middle ground.
Once we make the decision to follow Christ, we will quickly notice its impact. Others’ pursuit of the life of luxury will only lead us deeper into poverty. When one man’s pockets fill with money, another man’s must empty. It is our choice as to what side of that equation we want to be on.
The life of luxury will only last for a time. Choose to follow the righteous path, which may be void of luxury now, but will lead to immense riches later.
