Those Who Have Persevered….

During our times of struggle, we have many examples of those who have persevered:

Take as an example of hardship and patience, brothers, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Indeed we call blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, because “the Lord is compassionate and merciful.” -James 5:10-11, NAB

The Bible tells many stories of those who have persevered, such as Job who was mentioned in this verse.  Since then, there have been many saints who have faced similar challenges that we can recall, as well.

These examples are important because they give us hope.  There may not be an easy fix to our problems or difficulties, but we can see how challenges can ultimately lead to a greater good.

This concept goes against modern thought that hopes to fix everything.  At times, there may not be a good resolution to our difficulties.  Sometimes, the only solutions are difficult ones, and we must be ready to face that fact – just as many saints did.

Faith does not assure us that our obstacles will disappear.  God does not guarantee that our problems will be solved.  But through the examples of those who have persevered before us, we can see the ultimate beauty of a life with Christ.
