Humility and Widsom….
True wisdom leads us to humility:
Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show his works by a good life in the humility that comes from wisdom. -James 3:13, NAB
As we gain more knowledge, it can sometimes lead us to arrogance. We believe that our intelligence helps us to rise above others. But true wisdom – wisdom found in faith in the Lord – must lead us to humility instead.
If you read this site (or other Catholic websites, books, and media) regularly, you may know more about Catholicism than the average person, which may lead you to looking down on the lack of knowledge of others.
We cannot let this happen to ourselves.
I think it’s great that you know the definition of transubstantiation. It’s wonderful that you’ve memorized over 100 Bible verses. I’m glad that you take studying our faith so seriously. Just do not let that knowledge you’ve gained lead you to pride.
If you have true wisdom, you would realize that it is less about the amount of knowledge you have, and more about what you do with that knowledge. It is better to be a loving person who is just beginning to learn about the faith than a theological scholar that does little to act on it.
They say that knowledge is power, but the Bible tells us wisdom leads to humility. May the wisdom you’ve gained lead you to a Christ-like humility.
