Trials Lead to Perseverance….
We may question why God allows us to face trials, but they always have a purpose – trials lead to perseverance:
Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. -James 1:2-4, NAB
St. James begins his letter by preparing us for the trials ahead. It’s not if we face trials but when. Trials will come. It is one of life’s greatest certainties. The only thing left to be decided is how we will react to them.
Most of the world let’s their trials defeat them, and they quickly look for pity from everyone around them. But does that help them overcome their trials? Does a mountain of pity help anyone climb their obstacles? The longer we wait to face our trials, the larger they become.
St. James challenges us to meet our trials with faith. By enduring life’s difficulties with faith, we will build the perseverance needed to conquer whatever life throws at us. We are equipping ourselves with the armor of Christ, which will protect us in any battle.
Christ faced trials that brought salvation to the world, and our trials lead to perseverance, which is needed to reach that salvation. Do not grow bitter from the trials you face; embrace them, for they will lead you to a life with Christ.
