The Father of Lights….

Where do you search for your source of light?  Do you seek the Father of Lights?

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers: all good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by change.  -James 1:16-17, NAB

As we look up to the sun to light our days, we know that it will be gone in a number of hours.  Then, when the moon comes up, we know that it is merely a reflection of the sun’s light – unable to light our paths nearly as well.

Both the sun and moon are in a constant state of change from our perspective.  We cannot depend on them to consistently guide our journey.  Even as the stars come out, we know that the constellations of the sky will shift, as well.

To combat this problem, man has long sought artificial light, but candles will eventually come to the end of their wick, and creating electricity takes a great deal of effort.  We will eventually find ourselves in the dark once again.

But as we look up to the heavens to the Father of Lights, our path will become lit before us.  On the cloudiest days and darkest nights, His light will shine brightly enough to guide us on any journey.  Instead of looking to the created for light, we look to the Creator.

The natural world is consistently inconsistent.  Our technological world is subject to the flaws of man.  When the sun sets, the candle extinguishes, and the power goes out, only the light given by God remains.

The sun, moon, and stars are in constant motion.  The light created by man can be gone in an instant.  Only the Father of Lights can illuminate every step of our journey, so put your faith in the Creator who lit up the heavens in the first place.
