There is no better day that today to start following Christ:
Therefore, since it remains that some will enter into it, and those who formerly received the good news did not enter because of disobedience, he once more set a day, “today,” when long afterwards he spoke through David, as already quoted: “Oh, that today you would hear his voice: ‘Harden not your hearts.'” -Hebrews 4:6-7, NAB
Have you ever met someone who “planned” to go to church but never quite made it? They plan to go, but something always comes up. Maybe next weekend or next month will work better. One of these days, they will make it to church.
What happens? What could be so important that you can’t give one hour a week back to God?
People may have the best intentions, but somehow, life always creeps in and changes their direction. The busyness of life quickly takes precedence, and another week goes by without going to church. The same thing goes for prayer, reading Scripture, volunteering our time, and living out our faith in other ways.
From today’s verse, the Israelites kept putting off turning their heart over to God; they would try to be obedient another day. Over time, those other days became 40 years, and some never entered the promised land because of it.
Eventually, you have to take a stand and say that today is the day that you are going to change your priorities; today is the day that you will put Christ first and the world second. You will not let other obligations and commitments come before your commitment to God anymore.
There is no better day than today to commit your life to God. Do not wait until tomorrow to do the most important thing that you could do today.
