Tested in Every Way…

We can turn to Jesus in our times of trial because He has been tested in every way:

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin. So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.  -Hebrews 4:14-16, NAB

Everyone will face difficult times at some point.  During those times, we often seek the help and advice from someone who has dealt with a similar situation before.  This way, they can be more sympathetic to our struggles and offer better advice to overcome our challenges.

By coming down from heaven to walk among us, Jesus experienced the same trials as us.  He can sympathize with how difficult these trials are to overcome, and He can lead us in a direction to overcome them through His own example.

At times, we see our God as very distant.  It can be hard to connect to an all-knowing, all-powerful God.  As the Wonderful Counselor, though, Jesus puts a human face on our Lord and helps us to connect to God in a much more personal way.  We often only think of Jesus’ time in ministry, but He spent many years before that living a life similar to yours and mine.

During His life, Christ faced many of the same challenges as us.  He worked hard for a living, struggled to earn enough money to survive, knows the pain of losing a loved one, and faced many of the same temptations that we struggle with today.  In all of these situations, though, Christ was able to rise above.

Christ was tested in every way, so when we turn to Him in our times of need, we are not only receiving help from an all-powerful God, but also the Wonderful Counselor who understands our every struggle.
