God Sees Us for Who We Really Are…

We may try to disguise ourselves in front of the world, but God can see right through it:

No creature is concealed from him, but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.  -Hebrews 4:13, NAB

God knows all.  God sees all.  Why, then, do we try to hide from Him?  Why do we even attempt to cover up our weaknesses?

After the fall, Adam and Eve’s first reaction was to hide.  They covered up their shame with fig leaves and were afraid to be honest with God.  How many fig leaves have you worn in your life?  How many times have you tried to hide in the bushes?

Eventually, we need to realize that God sees us for who we really are.  Regardless of how many mistakes we try to cover up, God can see them all.  But there is good news: God still loves us!  He still loved Adam and Eve, and He still loves us for all of our mistakes.

One day, we will have to account for each of our sins and mistakes, but we have a choice: be honest with God (who sees our mistakes anyway), or waste our time trying to hide them.  It is much better to stop hiding and seek the open arms of Christ.  We need to go no further than the Confessional.

If God sees us for who we really are (and loves us anyway), we should stop trying to hide from Him and accept the love He is freely offering us.  The sooner we do, the sooner we can begin on the path towards full reconciliation with our loving Creator.
