Servants of God…
We are servants to the Master of the house, and to His Son, Jesus Christ:
Moses was “faithful in all his house” as a “servant” to testify to what would be spoken, but Christ was faithful as a son placed over his house. We are his house, if (only) we hold fast to our confidence and pride in our hope. -Hebrews 3:5-6, NAB
When we look at the major figures of the Bible, such as Abraham, Moses, and David in the Old Testament, or Mary, Peter, Paul, and the Apostles in the New Testament, we must not forget that they are still just servants to the one, true King.
The Church has had a number of inspirational leaders since the world began. We can look to their examples as a model for our own lives, and we can seek their intercession through prayer. However, they all had one single purpose: to serve God.
If we want to follow in the footsteps of these great people, we must also become servants of God. We must stop serving the world and our own selfish desires, and begin giving our lives over to Christ, wholly and completely. Every moment of our existence should be dedicated to Him.
Christ Himself tells us in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters.” We cannot allow anything to come between us and our mission to serve God. Having a good job, nice home, and comfortable lifestyle is acceptable, but it should never separate us from our true mission.
As servants of God, we follow in the footsteps of Moses, David, Mary, and Peter in giving our lives in service to our Master. The work is hard, and the path will be difficult, but when our work is done, the rewards will be immeasurable.
