The Love of Money…
Can you truly live free from the love of money?
Let your life be free from love of money but be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never forsake you or abandon you.” -Hebrews 13:5, NAB
Greed. It is one of the most difficult forces that tries to separate us from our Creator. This deadly sin is at the root of many evils, and something that each one of us must continue to battle against.
We often think of greed when we look at Wall Street executives, Hollywood stars, and pro athletes. They have reached the pinnacles of financial success, but it never seems to be enough. However, you don’t need millions of dollars in the bank to fall to the sin of greed.
The love of money can strike all of us. Whether we are rich or poor, we seem naturally inclined to always want more money. When we earn more, we want more, and the cycle continues. Regardless of our financial situation, the love of money can consume us.
The author is challenging us to be content with what we have – however much that might be. Whether you live in a studio apartment or a large mansion, accept what you have as a gift from God.
The key is trust. We all worry about our finances sometimes. Some worry about keeping up with the Joneses. Others want to provide better for their families. Some are facing financial struggles and wonder where their next meal will come from. Whatever your situation may be, trust that God will provide what you need.
Some modern-day preachers promise wealth and happiness when we accept Christ. I have some bad news for those folks: God may not give us enough money to buy everything we want; however, the good news is that He will bless us with enough for everything we need.
Do not let the love of money consume you!
