The Sacrifice of Praise….
Christ gave His life as a sacrifice, and it is worthy of our praise:
Through him (then) let us continually offer God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. -Hebrews 13:15, NAB
In the Old Testament, the Jewish people made sacrifices to atone for their sins. Now, because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, the only thing we need to offer is our sacrifice of praise.
Of course, our sacrifice of praise goes beyond simply saying how great God is. Our praise includes our every action as a Catholic, especially our participation in the sacraments.
We praise God by participating in the Mass and receiving the Eucharist. We praise God by admitting our sins in Confession. We praise God by loving our spouses unconditionally through our sacramental marriage. We praise God by ensuring our children are baptized and confirmed.
We also offer God a sacrifice of praise when we serve our communities, feed the poor, give of our wealth, and tend to the sick.
By living our lives according to God’s will and continually offering up His name in praise, we are taking up the cross. When we take up the cross, we are sharing in Christ’s sacrifice. Through this sacrifice, we seek atonement for our sins.
Offer your life as a sacrifice of praise to God. Let your every word, every action, every breath be an act of praise for the One who came to save us.
