The Faith of Noah…
We continue looking at heroes of the Bible who showed amazing faith:
By faith Noah, warned about what was not yet seen, with reverence built an ark for the salvation of his household. Through this he condemned the world and inherited the righteousness that comes through faith. -Hebrews 11:7 NAB
Like Enoch from yesterday’s verse, Noah walked with God:
But Noah found favor with the LORD… for he walked with God… -Genesis 6:8-10, NAB
Who was Noah? Few people, even those who are not Christians, do not know the story of Noah, the ark, and the flood. It is a timeless tale of God punishing mankind for its sins while saving the only righteous one out of the whole bunch.
Noah was a good man, but it took amazing faith to follow God’s instructions. Imagine God telling you that a great flood was coming – enough to fill the entire earth. Then, imagine Him telling you that you have to build a boat large enough to protect you, your family, and a host of animals.
Noah never stopped to ask God why (at least not in the Bible’s account of it). He simply did as God asked. God told him to build an ark, so he built an ark. When we feel God telling us to do something, do we unconditionally follow Him, or do we feel the need to constantly ask why?
There are times when we may be put in the same situation as Noah. We may want to save the whole world, but in the end, the world has to face its own fate. Like Noah, we have to focus on saving our families and loved ones.
Even our loved ones can reject God and be forced to face the flood caused by their sins. We can show them the way to our new ark, Jesus Christ, but only they can choose to get on board. Sadly, many that we love may never choose to enter the boat.
Noah showed the depth of his faith by following God’s will without question. He couldn’t save the whole world, but he at least found refuge for his family. Do we follow God’s will the same way? Do we listen without question?
