The Faith of Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph…
The faith of Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph teaches us to hold onto hope for tomorrow:
By faith regarding things still to come Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau. By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and “bowed in worship, leaning on the top of his staff.” By faith Joseph, near the end of his life, spoke of the Exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his bones. -Hebrews 11:20-22 NAB
These three heroes of the Old Testament, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, are looking to the future. They believe that God will fulfill the promises that He has made with the Jewish people. Even at the end of their lives, they clung to hope – hope deeply rooted in their faith.
First, this reminds me of our hope of salvation. As we reach the end of our lives, death can be a scary thing to confront, but we can take comfort in the promise of Christ to save us. If we have given our lives to the Lord, we have little to fear.
Next, we can hold onto the promise that Christ will someday come again – not just spiritually, but physically. The days of this world are numbered. We know that Christ will one day come again to free the world. We do not know the day or hour of when He will come again, but we know that He will come.
Finally, we can find peace in knowing that God’s promise does not end with us. Our children, our children’s children, and generations to come will be offered the same blessings from the Lord. They simply need to open their heart and accept it. We can rest knowing that they can have the same peace in the Lord we have.
One of faith’s greatest impacts and blessings on our lives is the hope it gives us for tomorrow. Regardless of what we may be facing today, even death, we can find peace through our Lord, Jesus Christ.
