Rewarded for Having Faith…
The author of Hebrews tells us that we will be rewarded for having faith:
Therefore, do not throw away your confidence; it will have great recompense. You need endurance to do the will of God and receive what he has promised… We are not among those who draw back and perish, but among those who have faith and will possess life. -Hebrews 10:35-36,39 NAB
Throughout the book of Hebrews, we have spent a lot of time talking about the sacrifices made for our sins, but in this verse, we focus on the rewards received for living a life of faith.
Some preachers will run around telling people that having faith will lead to great riches and abundance. Believe in God, and He will provide you all of the material wealth that you will ever need. But the recompense here (payment for hardship and suffering) is not of this world.
God may choose to bless us physically in this world, but the greatest rewards He offers us will not come until we reach heaven. What are those rewards? Your guess is as good as mine. I’ve never been there, so I won’t even begin to speculate. Either way, eternity in heaven with our Creator is reward enough – anything else on top of it would be simply amazing.
Regardless of what these rewards may be, the main point is that God will acknowledge the sacrifices we have made in His name. He sees our faith. He sees our effort to follow His will. We may fall short from time to time, but our good deeds will not go unnoticed.
God has great rewards waiting for us in heaven. All it takes is a little faith.
