Give What You Can, When You Can
2 Corinthians 9:7…
We’re taking a quick detour from our normal daily verses for this special message:
Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. -2 Corinthians 9:7, NAB
For the past few weeks, we have been trying to raise money over at Assisi Media, and with only hours to go, I thought that I would share a little bit about our goal for this campaign.
First, I know some of you may be as excited to read this message as watching a telethon raising money for charity. Never fear. There is less than 3 days left, so after Thursday, you will not have to worry about it again. In the meantime, let me tell you about our goal, how it works, and what you can expect in return.
Our goal is simple: raise enough money to publish Waking Up Catholic under our newly formed company, Assisi Media. It has long been my goal to convert what you read here into a book, so we can reach a larger audience with the truth of the Gospel. It’s not really about money or business; it’s about evangelization.
Next, you probably want to know how it works. Simple. Go to our fundraising page at www.AssisiMedia.com, and click on the “Contribute Now” link. Or simply click on one of the “perks” on the righthand side (more on those in a minute). After that, it is a two-step process: enter your shipping information, and then enter the billing info on the secure site.
What do you get in return? Perks. The perks range from eBooks, to autographed paperback copies, to T-shirts, to having your name in the Acknowledgements section of the book, and even to being able to host the book launch. Similar to a telethon, it all depends on the contribution amount.
I apologize if this past month of fundraising has offended anyone. Generally, I try to stay away from this type of thing, and it has taken me out of my comfort zone, as well. I am not someone who is naturally gifted in sales. I have a hard time asking for money. So know this, if I have pushed this hard for the past month, it is only because I believe in our cause that much.
I chose today’s verse for a reason. Give what you can – nothing more. Whether it’s $1 or $50, offer it up to God. If you can’t offer any money, we completely understand (I have been there before), so pray for us instead. Share the link with your friends and family through Facebook, Twitter, and email. Whatever you can do to help is greatly appreciated.
We are not a 501c3 charity. I cannot offer you any tax breaks or incentives. But when we give to the mission of the Church, is it really about that? Help us continue to spread the Gospel in whatever way you can. I pray that God will bless you for it – in the same way you have already blessed us.
