Become A New Creation…
Faith is not about what you do, but about who you become:
For neither does circumcision mean anything, nor does uncircumcision, but only a new creation. –Galatians 6:15, NAB
After you first accept Christ into your life, you will never be the same. Through Him, you become a new creation, just as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17:
So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come. -2 Corinthians 5:17, NAB
What does it mean to become a new creation? First, we need to understand who we are from our original creation. At our original creation, we inherit the stain of Original Sin – resulting from the fall of man (Adam & Eve). We are sinners by nature. To become a new creation, then, means leaving behind the sinful nature that separates us from God.
Through Christ, we can unite with God once again and take a different path, but as St. Paul tells us in this verse, it is not about we do, but about who we become. We should model our lives after Christ, the Blessed Mother, and the saints. Striving for sainthood should become a part of who we are.
Living a saintly life requires faith. It comes from the depths of the heart and soul – not the work of our minds and hands. When you let Christ into your heart, He will change you from the inside out. Instead of focusing on your outward actions, focus on your inner self, and the outward actions will follow.
Some choose not to embrace the Christian life because they do not want to follow a set of rules, but it’s not about the rules. Yes, you will change – because you will want to change. Living a Christ-like life leads to freedom, not shackles. Soon, you will realize that the things you hold so dear are actually the things holding you back.
Become a new creation in Christ. Open your heart, and let yourself begin to change from the inside out. It’s a decision you will never regret.
