All May Belong to Christ…
Salvation is not saved for one group alone:
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise. -Galatians 3:28-29, NAB
When we read Galatians 3:27 (read here), we learned that being Christian is the only identity that matters in this life. Taking that a step further, today, we learn that when we belong to Christ, we also share in His promise of salvation – regardless of our ethnic, gender, or racial divides.
Many focus on the new life that Christ offers us in this life, but what He offers us in the next is even more important. Salvation is available to all who belong to Christ, regardless of who they are or once were.
Listen to one of the TV evangelists, and they will tell you about the many changes Christ will bring to your life today, as we read in Galatians 3:27. These changes are fantastic, but what really matters is not the clothes you wear today, but the garments you will wear in Heaven. Since becoming Christian (especially since becoming Catholic), God has changed my life drastically, but the biggest changes are those yet to come.
I am an American. My father’s family comes from Norway, and my mother’s family is a mix of German and other nationalities. I grew up Lutheran, eventually became a non-denominational Christian, but converted to Catholicism. But I can leave all of that behind because what truly matters is that I belong to Christ, in this life and in the next.
In Heaven, nationalities will not matter. There is not a special place for Americans, Jews, Italians, or Filipinos. We are all members of Christ’s Kingdom, and we will all serve the same King. We will all belong to Christ.
