On a Mission from God…
The destiny of St. Paul was decided long before he accepted Christ into his life:
But when (God), who from my mother’s womb had set me apart and called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him to the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; rather, I went into Arabia and then returned to Damascus. -Galatians, 1:15-17, NAB
Everyone has a plan for their life; however, it may not be what God truly wants from us. St. Paul never expected to be one of the Church’s early leaders. In fact, he did not even expect to be a follower of Christ at all, but God had a plan for him, whether he knew it or not.
In Acts 9, we learn of St. Paul’s conversion to Christianity (known as Saul in Acts). Today’s verse recounts what happened immediately after. After a personal encounter with Jesus, St. Paul set out to preach and share the Word of God.
Most of the early Christians learned about Christ from one of the Apostles or early leaders of the Church. St. Paul was confronted by Jesus directly because he had been persecuting early Christians. At that moment, Jesus changed his life, and St. Paul left to share that experience with everyone who would listen.
St. Paul was on a mission from God to share his unique experience with the world. We may not be Paul, but we can certainly do the same thing. He did not wait for permission or authority from anyone to share what had happened; he simply began telling his story. Immediately, he began sharing his newfound love for Christ.
Sharing our faith does not require an advanced degree in theology. Just as St. Paul did not drop everything to go learn what he could from the Apostles, we do not have to wait until we are Biblical scholars to tell our story. We can share our wonderful conversion stories with the world around us, showing them how Christ has transformed our lives.
Reading these Daily Bible Verses, understand that I do not have a doctorate in Biblical studies. I am someone like you. Christ has changed my life, and I want to tell the world about it. Now, as I study and learn more about the faith, I want to share with you what I have learned. You can do the same (and you don’t need a website to do it).
Are you on a mission from God? Did Christ change your life? Believe it or not, you are. Your mission is to share the love of Christ and Word of God using whatever talents and abilities God has given you. If you’re a writer, write. If you’re a talker, talk. If you’re a listener, listen. If you’re a builder, build. Go out into the world and tell your story. The world is waiting.
