God’s Plan for Your Life…

Place your life in the hands of God and trust in His plan for your future:

For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope. -Jeremiah 29:11, NAB

This weekend, I had the opportunity to go to South Bend, Indiana to watch the Notre Dame football team play.  For me, this was a trip to not only see a great football game, but to also revisit the place where my journey to Catholicism began.

For those of you who have not read my conversion story (or how a Notre Dame football game had an impact on it), read my post on Faith and Football from the New Evangelizers blog.  Long story short, I went to a Notre Dame football game a few years ago – not knowing God’s greater plan for my life or how that experience would change my life forever.

When I look over the past ten years of my life, the decade began with poor choices and immature decisions.  This eventually led me to troubled waters, and I often wondered how my life had ended up that way.  What purpose did these troubles have in my life?  Why would God allow this to happen to me?  I was beginning to lose hope.

The second half of the past decade began to look a little brighter.  As the rest of the country went into a financial tailspin, my patience and perseverance were finally paying off.  When the country was booming, I was struggling to survive.  Now that the country faced a financial meltdown, my life was beginning to fall in place.  I began to have hope once again.

During my times of struggle, one thing kept me going: hope.  Hope in our Lord, Jesus Christ.  I knew that God had a greater plan for me, even if I did not know where it would lead.  I did not expect Him to lead me to Catholicism, and I definitely did not expect it to happen at a college football game.

If you are facing times of despair, keep hope alive.  God did not abandon me ten years ago.  In fact, I’m the one to blame for my mistakes.  Despite my mistakes, I trusted our Lord to pull me through, and He did.  He led me to places I never expected and gave me a future I never dreamed of.

God has a future full of hope in store for you; you simply need to have the patience and perseverance needed to accept it.
