To unlock the gates of Heaven, you have to leave behind the keys to the world:
Be sure of this, that no immoral or impure or greedy person, that is, an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the disobedient. So do not be associated with them. -Ephesians 5:5-7, NAB
The modern world has tried to twist our faith and the teachings of Christ to suit its own needs, offering empty arguments as the keys to happiness – and even to salvation. They may find short-term pleasure in this world, but it does them little good in the next.
Listen, we are commanded to leave the ways of the world behind. We cannot indulge in the pursuit of sex, money, and power, ignoring the teachings of Christ Himself, and expect to find salvation. It doesn’t work that way.
We cannot reason our way into Heaven. Saying to yourself, “I’m basically a good person,” has never been the key to unlocking the gates to eternity with Christ. Only living a life focused on love and grounded in faith can lead us to salvation.
Some will say that it is their “right” to be happy, including the “happiness” they find in greed and lust. In some ways, this is true. They have the right to free will, but not every choice we make is good for us. Not every choice leads us to a right relationship with God.
Most people in our world seem to thrive on self-indulgence yet will try to negotiate their way into Heaven, in their own mind, at least. But these are often just empty arguments. To enter the Kingdom of Christ, you must leave immorality behind and embrace the ways of the Lord. There is simply no other way.
