Ephesians 2:4-7

Alive with Christ…

By Christ’s wounds we are healed, and by His grace we are saved:

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ (by grace you have been saved), raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.-Ephesians 2:4-7, NAB

Yesterday’s verse from Ephesians 2:1-3 taught us that sin leads only to death, but today, we learn that through God’s mercy we can find a new beginning and be alive with Christ.

Are we truly alive with Christ?  Can we let go of the sins that keep us chained to the world?  Have we let go of the guilt and burdens of our past?  Step 1 in truly being alive with Christ is accepting the grace that is freely being offered to us.  As simple as that sounds, it’s not always so easy.

We often feel unworthy of God’s grace, and in all actuality, we are.  There is nothing that we can do or say that will ever make us worthy of redemption.  Yet even as “we were dead in our transgressions,” Christ came to save us anyway.

God would not be showing us mercy if we had earned our salvation; instead, He would be paying us what is due.  Of course, we know better than that.  God extends His mercy to us because of the depths of our sins. Yet no matter how deep our sins may be, the depth of God’s grace is infinitely greater.

Accept the gift of salvation being offered you.  Let go of your past mistakes that keep you separated in guilt from God.  You may not be able to forgive yourself, but God can.
