Mystery of God’s Will…
Through Christ, we finally see God’s plan for salvation:
In all wisdom and insight, he has made known to us the mystery of his will in accord with his favor that he set forth in him as a plan for the fullness of times, to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth. –Ephesians 1:8-10, NAB
Before Christ, Old Testament prophets spoke of a coming Messiah and a new path to salvation. To them, the mystery of God’s will was difficult to comprehend; they simply had to trust in His plan for them.
Understanding prophecy can be difficult. Spend some time reading Revelations, and you will be left with more questions than answers. For the people of Israel that lived before Christ, it must have been just as difficult to understand.
Imagine living in the time after Revelations. Everything would begin to make sense. This is the picture that we have of Christ. We can look at His life in the Gospels and see how it plays out against the backdrop of the Old Testament. Understanding the mystery of God’s will is made a little bit easier.
For some, God’s will is still a mystery. Everyone struggles with knowing God’s will for their own lives, but others still cannot see how Christ plays a role within the world. They have a hard time accepting God’s plan for salvation through His Son.
The mystery of God’s will has been revealed to us in His Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible’s narrative culminates in the Passion of Christ, and we finally see the path to salvation that was foretold in the Old Testament. Put your faith and trust in God’s will, and the gates of Heaven will swing wide open before you.
