We exist for one primary purpose – to praise God:
In him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the one who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory, we who first hoped in Christ. –Ephesians 1:11-12, NAB
We spend a lot of time pondering the meaning of life and our purpose in it. We struggle to find significance in our careers, relationships, and charitable works, but when we really get down to basics, we have but one purpose: praising and glorifying the God who created us.
Seems simple enough. Praise God with your full heart, and you will find the very definition of life. So why do we drift so far away from this? Why are we so caught up in our own ideas of purpose that we fail to praise Him with every fiber of our being?
It’s difficult to let go of our own sense of worth. We try to measure ourselves by the amount of friends we have, our financial status, and the good works that we accomplish; however, we will never truly find satisfaction from any of these.
When things are going well in our lives, we get caught up in the highs of our successes. When life brings its share of struggles, we get lost in the lows of our failures. Highs and lows will come and go, but a life focused on praising God will always lead to a sense of value and worth.
That is why, over and over again, we are called to let go of our lives. We are told to leave everything behind and pick up our cross. If we continue to hold onto this world, it only makes it more difficult to stop praising ourselves and start praising God.
Your life has meaning. Your life has a purpose. Concentrate your life on praising God, and aim to always reflect His glory. When you align your life with God’s will, a new sense of joy will overcome you, and amazing things will begin to happen.
