Prayers for Our Political Leaders…

As the country gets ready for another election, let us lift up our leaders and candidates in prayer:

First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. -1 Timothy 2:1-4, NAB

Listen, I don’t care who you vote for or which party you support.  Unfortunately, in many cases, we seem to consistently choose between the lesser of two evils anyway.  In difficult situations like these, we can only do one thing: pray.

  • We must pray that God’s will be done in the elections.
  • We must pray that our country elects men and women with Christ in their heart to lead our country.
  • We must pray for the conversion of heart of cold-hearted politicians.
  • We must pray for the end of corruption in our political system.
  • We must pray that our country will one day return to its once-held, Christian values.
  • We must pray for our religious freedom that we hold so dear.

May God’s will be done in the election.  I do not know who will be President tomorrow morning.  I do not know who will have won the Senate and Congressional races.  But I do know who will be our King of Kings and Lord of Lords: Jesus Christ.  That is all that matters.

Kingdoms, nations, dynasties, and superpowers have come and gone, but the Kingdom of Heaven will last forever.  As pharoahs, kings, and presidents pass away, our King of Kings lives on.  Put your life in the hands of our Lord and seek the only Kingdom worth seeking.  And may God’s will be done.
