Armor of God
Whether we like it or not, we are in the middle of a spiritual battle for the souls of mankind:
“…draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power. Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.” -Ephesians 6:10-12, NAB
A topic that many try to avoid is admitting that we are in the middle of a spiritual battle. Speaking about the devil and his attack on our lives is not the most popular of ideas, but I assure you, it is very real. As we become soldiers for Christ, the devil will seek us out even more fervently.
Taking one look at society, it is easy to see that the devil has a hold on a number of people. He prays on their weaknesses and takes a grip on their lives. Through their wants and desires, he pulls them away from God, further and further. Meanwhile, nothing makes him more angry than to see someone of strong faith. He will do all that he can to pull us away from our Lord. It may begin with subtle temptations, but it will become a downright attack on our lives.
The closer we are to God; the more of an enemy we are to the devil. As we align ourselves with Christ through our thoughts and actions, we pit ourselves directly against Satan himself. In many ways, I have been fighting this spiritual battle in my own life. In my life as a Christian, I am no stranger to the devil’s attacks. As I have grown closer to Christ, he has tried everything he can to pull me away. At times, I have admittedly failed. He has succeeded through my weaknesses. He may knock me down, but I always get back up again. Each time, my faith grows stronger. As we are tested in battle, we may stumble, but the greatest of soldiers get right back up again.
When we fail, it is often because we lean on our own abilities. If we are to truly choose Christ, we must trust Him to fight the battle for us. With Christ’s protection, we can stand against the devil and all that he tries to do in our lives. Put your faith in Christ, and put on the armor of God:
“Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” -Ephesians 6:13-17
Are you ready for the battle?
