We can only find answered prayers if we ask for them first:
“Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.” -Mark 11:24, NAB
It has been over a week since I last posted a Daily Bible Verse – and for good reason! My wife gave birth to little Elliana Grace this week. She entered the world at 7:03 AM last Friday, so I took the week off to take care of mother and baby.
Elliana is growing bigger everyday, and Mama is quickly back on her feet, which means it’s time for me to begin writing again. It’s good to be back.
The first question many people ask is “what does Elliana mean?” In Hebrew, it means God has answered my prayers. Nothing could be more true! She is every bit of the blessing I could have ever imagined her to be.
For almost a year, my wife and I prayed to have a baby. Every night before bed, we added this very special intention to our prayers. As each month passed, we became a little more discouraged – worried that something may be wrong. Still, we continued to pray.
We will never understand when or how God will answer our prayers, but we know that He will. We still continued to pray for a baby, but we put it at the back of our minds. We did our best to simply put it in God’s hands (easier said than done).
It didn’t take long after that for God to respond. When we seemed to expect them least, answered prayers came our way. I can still vividly remember the moment that my wife shared the news with me. The moment still brings me to tears.
To this day, I still don’t feel worthy of such a blessing, which is where her middle name Grace comes in. Grace is our answered prayers from God – even when we least deserve them. God will answer our prayers because of His deep love for us – not because we earned it.
Every child is a gift from God and a series of answered prayers. Bringing new life into this world is one of life’s greatest joys. Thank you for all of the words of love, encouragement, and support. It has truly been a blessing to have our extended Waking Up Catholic family sharing in this joy.
