2 Peter 3:17-18
Final Words from Peter…
In our last verse from the books written by Peter, he tells us:
“Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled and to fall from your own stability. But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory now and to the day of eternity.” -2 Peter 3:17-18, NAB
The final words from Peter do a great job of summing up the message that he repeated so many times – be wary of the ways of the world. Peter knew that our biggest obstacle to overcome was our own weakness, and he continued to encourage us to stay strong.
To do this, Peter tells us to do two things. First, he tells us to grow in grace, but how can we accomplish that? The best way for us to bring more grace into our lives is through the Sacraments. Through the Eucharist, Confession & Reconciliation, and our other wonderful Sacraments, we can share in the grace that God freely shares for all of those who call on His name.
The second thing Peter tells us to do is grow in knowledge of our Lord and savior. There is some good news. Just by reading websites like this, you are taking the first step. Whether it be in books, on CD, or on the Internet, there are a vast number of resources for you to grow in knowledge of your faith. By now, you probably have felt that thirst for more knowledge, and it is a thirst that you can never seem to quench. The more you learn, the more you want to learn.
Over the past few weeks, we have studied all of 1 & 2 Peter, verse by verse. Many of his teachings echo what we have already heard from Paul during our study of 1 Corinthians. Of these teachings, hold fast to what is being said here today. Be wary of the ways of the world, strive to grow in grace, follow your thirst for knowledge, and continue to follow our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
