1 Peter 4:10-11
A Prayer for Gifts…
Let us use our God-given gifts to serve our Lord:
“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” -1 Peter 4:10, NAB
God has given us many blessings. He blesses us with jobs, a career, and money, and we must be good stewards of every penny He gives us. He blesses us with loving family and friends, and we must cherish every moment with them. Yet, one of the greatest gifts the Lord gives us is our life and spiritual gifts, and so many of us squander these gifts.
Our gifts serve many purposes. They may make you a better husband, father, wife, or mother. They may serve you in your career and help you reach success. However, the main purpose God has given us our gifts is for HIs glory. We are to use our gifts to serve Him, always. While being a good family man or woman is important, it pales in comparison to being a good Christian. Who we are as a Catholic and Christian should be the center of our lives. If we do that, the rest will naturally fall in place.
The Bible is filled with excellent prayers. Prayers, such as the Our Father, are taken directly from Scripture. Other prayers are a combination of various Scriptures. But here, in the following verse, we find a wonderful prayer for our spiritual gifts:
“Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” -1 Peter 4:11
If you are searching for your gifts, say this prayer. If you want to use your gifts for God more fully, say this prayer. On your way to work, before school, or just before bed, say this prayer. Let God use you through the gifts He has given you. You can make a difference in this world, and there is no better time to start than now.
