1 Peter 4:1-2
Getting the Most Out of Life…
No one knows how long they have on earth, so we should make the most of it:
“Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same attitude (for whoever suffers in the flesh has broken with sin), so as not to spend what remains of one’s life in the flesh on human desires, but on the will of God.” -1 Peter 4:1-2, NAB
How long do you plan to live? How long do you want to live? Well, I’m sorry to say that it doesn’t matter. No matter how long we plan or want to live, we have no control over it. We may live to be 40 or 100, but we will not know until that time comes. So, don not live your life expecting to live to the average age of the mid 70s; you just never know how long you’ll really live.
We live in a world where we are constantly on the move. Unfortunately, our busy lives mean that we often put off some of the more important things. Our lives will be filled with football games, soccer practices, and dance recitals, but we miss out on Mass regularly. We work long hours into the night, but we find no time to work at the local homeless shelter. We find time to squeeze in cat naps, but we struggle to make prayer a part of daily life. Obviously, our priorities might be a little off.
Why do we put off what should be the most important aspect of our life?
- We will start going to Mass regularly next week.
- We will start giving more of our time to charity next month.
- We will start praying daily beginning the day after tomorrow.
