1 Peter 1:8-9
Love Lights Our Path…
Peter continues with his beautiful prose by sharing the joys and goals of our faith:
“Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls.” -1 Peter 1:8-9, NAB
Peter begins this verse with, “Although you have not seen him you love him,” and it is the center of our faith. Christ freely shares His love with us, and our faith can be defined by the love we have for Him. Our faith revolves around the relationship we have with Christ and our adoration for our Savior.
Like any relationship, the love we feel for Christ may have its ups and downs. There will be times when we are extremely passionate about our faith, and times when we are not. Yet, no matter how many times we drift away, He is waiting for us with open arms.
Our love for Christ goes beyond simply an emotional feeling that we have for Him. The love we have for Him leads us on a journey, a journey toward the ultimate goal – salvation. This verse connects these two aspects of our faith beautifully. We often hear about the love we should have for Christ. We often hear about salvation. But, how often do we hear about our love being the path to salvation?
Looking for the road to heaven? With love in your heart, you can’t go wrong. Follow the path of love, and at the end of the road, you will surely find salvation.
