1 Corinthians 8:11-12
How the World Sees Christ…
The world can no longer see Christ in the flesh, but it can see us:
“Thus through your knowledge, the weak person is brought to destruction, the brother for whom Christ died. When you sin in this way against your brothers and wound their consciences, weak as they are, you are sinning against Christ.” -1 Corinthians 8:11-12, NAB
As Christians, we are how the world sees Christ, and the Church, through the words we speak and through our actions. When we are weak, the world sees the Church as weak. When we are corrupt, the world sees the Church as corrupt. Scandals have hurt our ability to reach out to the world. Ignorance of our own faith prevents us from being able to teach the world. Our apathy and weakness prevent us from being able to preach to the world. If we want to reach, teach, and preach to the world, we must begin by following the example Christ has given us. The commandments that we choose to follow, or not to follow, are the building blocks of the Church. By building a strong foundation on the teachings and commandments of our Lord, we can begin to change the image of the Church and how the world sees Christ through us. To change the world in which we live, we must change how we live in the world. Alone, we cannot change the whole Church, but we can change who we are in the Church. One block at a time, we can make a difference.
I leave with this quote:
”If all Christians acted like Christ, the whole world would be Christian.” -Mahatma Ghandi
