1 Corinthians 5:6
Sin Overtakes Us…
A little sin goes a long way, but not in a good way:
“Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough?” -1 Corinthians 5:6, NAB
Yeast has a way of spreading itself through an entire batch of dough. The saying that Paul is using parallels sin in our lives. In the first few verses of Chapter 5 of 1 Corinthians, Paul is scolding the Corinthians for their actions, and in verse 6, he is warning them how their sin will permeate through their lives. No matter how small a sin may seem, it has the power to spread and to grow. Slowly, sin begins to overtake our lives as we try to justify our sin with one excuse or another. We are all sinners; there is no denying that. However, if we allow sin into our lives, we are also allowing it to grow. We will stumble. We will face our share of trials. Despite our struggles, we should strive to live like Christ and leave sin behind, no matter how small of a sin it may be. We will never be perfect, but that does not mean that we shouldn’t try to be.
